I said to Ev that maybe we should change things, say that no-one needs to bring any gifts.
Ev said that it is nice to give gifts and nice to have traditions and anyway we can not change anything because it is not our country and we don't know enough about it. You have to understand things before you decide it's better to change them.
Also if you have to make some effort then you value things more.
