Pressing noses, called a hongi, still happens today. But in old days, when tribes met, they would also have something called a challenge.
The host tribe would advance forward and place a gift on the ground for the visitors to collect.
We saw a demonstration of this and when the visitor bent to pick the gift up, the host waved his taiahai above the guests head.
I wondered what explorers did if they didnt know and stood up too soon. Whoops.
