This is a very old photograph so I didn�t take it. Richard probably did but don�t tell him I said that.
The sticks they are holding are called the Taiahia. It was used in fighting.
Maori thought everything was like a person. One end of the stick was the head and the other the feet. If you held your stick upright on the ground it had to be the feet end touching the earth. Watch my video to see young boys practice. Now it is just a fun game.
