When the Maori first came to New Zealand there was an enormous bird there called the Moa. This is a full size model of one. But it was a bird that didn�t fly and so it was easy to catch.
Sadly the Maori caught too many and the bird became extinct. Extinct means that there were none left.
The Maori didn�t realise but even today we hunt animals that are nearly extinct. Some bears are like that. We should be careful.
